Once you receive your Kialara Guardian and generate your public/private key pair or seed phrase, follow the instructions below to fund your Kialara securely.

Find a serene spot and set aside around an hour of uninterrupted time for this process. Embrace a Zen mindset, allowing your creativity to flow while witnessing your wallet transform into a captivating conversation starter. The concept behind investing time in this artistic endeavor is to encourage long-term Bitcoin holding, spanning years, thereby minimizing the temptation to engage in emotional trading and react to short-term price fluctuations.

These Guardians are meticulously designed with 52 cells on the bottom disc, where you can record a compressed 52-character base58 private key. On the top disc, there are 34 cells to record up to a 34-character alphanumeric public address. When marking the discs, be sure to record the private key on the bottom and the public key with its balance on top. You can give your Guardian a set denomination, or add to it over time: i.e. One Centibit (0.01 btc) per month, etc. In the example images the discs are marked with 1.25 BTC (One Bitcoin, Two Decibits, Five Centibits).

To facilitate the process, a template printed on water-soluble paper is provided. It is highly recommended to fill out the template first and then transfer the information directly onto the discs using the permanent markers included. Using the blue marker for capital letters and the black marker for letters and numbers can aid in decoding your Guardian more easily. Once you have transferred the keys or seed onto your Guardian and double-checked your work, you can dissolve the water-soluble template smoothly in the sink.

To better understand the process, below is a time-lapse video condensing 45 minutes down to 45 seconds.

And here’s a time-lapse showing the stone-setting process.

For those who prefer to record a seed phrase, the Guardian comes with a Seed Phrase Kit comprising two steel discs and a custom Seed Phrase Template.

Although robust, it’s worth noting that these Guardians are not intended to be your typical fireproof seed phrase backups. After testing numerous options, the selected permanent markers have proven resilient even after prolonged exposure to saltwater and a cycle through a dishwasher, surpassing the durability of typical paper wallets. Although fire and heat tests may be conducted in the future, it is unlikely that the marker would withstand a large-scale fire unless marked with a punch or drill. Steel punches can be temperamental in my experience. Consider the value of your stored balance and decide whether it is best kept in a fireproof safe, safe deposit box, or openly displayed.

For those seeking a more creative approach, an example involves marking the reverse side of the private-key disc with permanent markers and recording the public key on top using Sakura Gelly Roll Moonlight fluorescent markers for a striking UV light glow effect.

In the aforementioned example, the fluorescent markers endured a three-day saltwater soak but did not fare as well in the dishwasher test. If the top disc were to become unreadable, the Bitcoin within can still be recovered using the private key, ensuring a secure approach. Dishwashers are for plates and cups, anyhow.

Later this year, replacement discs will be offered so that if you choose to redeem the Bitcoin from your Guardian, you can restore it to its original condition if desired.
